To remain competitive,
employers must look beyond the traditional labour sources
and focus on qualified, yet under represented workers, who
have disabilities. Persons with disabilities comprise one-fifth
of the population. They are not equally represented in the
workforce. While unemployment is at an all time low, about
65% of persons with disabilities, half of whom want to work,
are unemployed.
Persons with disabilities are often overlooked
as viable candidates in competition for jobs.
An alternative
solution to the general labour situation could be to consider
looking at the pool of able and willing
workers
who have disabilities.
With little or no modification,
many jobs, that offer growth, could be performed by a person
with intellectual or learning
disabilities. |
